I’m Talking RubyCocoa Tonight

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I’m going to be showing some slides (and talking over the slides) and doing a demo of RubyCocoa tonight for the Boise ruby brigade. I’ll post the code and slides tomorrow for anyone that might care. Hopefully someone learns something (minimally, I think I’ll get a lot out of it)

Browser Independence

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Your favorite browser sucks! Mine does too. I rotate through Camino, Safari and OmniWeb. They all have strengths and weaknesses. After about two weeks, my default browser seems to have more weaknesses than strengths. So I switch!

“But what about my bookmarks!? and my saved form data!?” you say.

With that, I point you at WebnoteHappy[1] and [...]

My Wife Releases Her First Product

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

We keep our home pretty cool during the winter. Since I work out of the house all day[1], I’m frequently bundled up with a hat and stuff. The one thing I can’t really cover well has been my hands. I needs to type. It’s what I do. To combat my whining about my cold hands, [...]

Introducing TraineoWeight.wdgt

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Update: The traineo guys provided an API and I updated the widget. See: TraineoWeight.wdgt Updated

Like most Americans I’d prefer to be less fat. To help me with that goal I’ve been logging my weight on traineo.com. They offer plenty more than just weight tracking, but I haven’t gotten into all that quite yet. Anyway, it [...]

Dashboard Goes Poof

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

This is for all you F12 invoking Dashboarders out there: Did you know you can take the Dashboard icon in the dock and drag it off? It goes poof, just like any other dock icon. Dashboard doesn’t stop running, this just frees up its slot in the dock.

iTunes 7 + rooSwitch == Multiple Library Bliss

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Over in the forums, rooSwitch Lite user, brokosz asked if there was a way to switch iTunes without rooSwitch trying to switch the contents of ~/Music/iTunes. At first I didn’t quite get the request, but after some clarification and now that I’ve played with this a little I see it’s quite powerful. What’s going on [...]

iusethis pepper for mint

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I’ve got a number of secret pages that display things like sales data and download stats. My pages were ugly. As a fan of mint, I decided to see what would be involved in turning these ugly pages into private, roobasoft peppers (one “sales” pepper, one “downloads” pepper). Turns out, it’s quite easy (Kudo’s to [...]

Scripting FileStorm

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

rooSwitch Lite shipped with a disk image that was created using FileStorm. Previously I was using DropDMG, which is great, but I wanted something that let me use a background and position 128×128 icons on it. FileStorm was pretty easy to navigate with the UI, but I wanted to have this scripted. I had a [...]

Hazel 1.0 Is Available

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

I’ve been using Hazel since I learned about it the week of WWDC. Hazel introduces itself as

Hazel is your personal housekeeper. Set up rules for any folder that could use some organizing and cleaning. Hazel does its work automatically and quietly in the background letting you focus on the your real tasks.

I have Hazel doing [...]

Use FeedBurner Without Changing Feed URL (w/ WordPress)

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Up until recently I had been using a poor man’s FeedBurner. I wanted to use FeedBurner, but requiring a change to my feed URL wasn’t attractive.

Enter WordPress FeedBurner Plugin.

This is a slick plugin that uses apache’s mod_rewrite to allow you to use FeedBurner without handing out a new feed URL. The plugin is super friendly [...]
