I have 250+ feeds as well, but don't use the folder technique as much as I should. I like the idea of grouping similar feeds together so that I can get in the right frame of mind and give them the needed amount of attention. Guess it's time to optimize!

That's almost exactly how I use NNW as well. Manual refresh, open interesting stuff, read throughout the day. I'm not so good at finishing off the list by the end of the day though. Eventually I just close out stuff.

I do the folder thing too. I’ve got a couple of folders for stuff that I know will be quick to read (e.g. web comics). Then themed ones. Reduces the reading I have to do to know what’s what.

I also keep linked list-style feeds separate (e.g. Kottke).

I have a special folder called High Volume. It contains stuff like MacNN, The Register and Slashdot.

Most of the stuff in this folder isn't really pressing to know right away and I flip through the items in the feed whenever I have a spare half hour. (The rest of the stuff gets read as soon as I get into the office.) The High Volume folder does tend to get a bit crowded sometimes and whenever I get behind too much I just mark everything as read and move on with my life.
