The guys at Potion Factory have a great looking app in Podcast Maker. They’ve recently added Voice Candy to their list of applications. Besides being another beautiful app, what is Voice Candy? Straight from their site, it reads:

Voice Candy is a fun and useful recorder for your Mac. You get 8 different effects to play with. Switch the effects while recording for some extra fun. For example, record a conversation between Darth Vader and chipmunk to produce something that just seems wrong.

I’ve also heard it described as “PhotoBooth for audio”.

The effects are great, but for me the real value is in being able to set quick reminders. I often will have one shot todos for a specific time.

Example: I’ll throw some pizza in the oven and head upstairs to read some email. In the past, this would often lead to a burnt pizza (at best). Now before I read my mail I fire up Voice Candy with the global “record” hotkey, say “go eat your pizza” and set a reminder for ten minutes. Ten minutes later I hear myself reminding me to go save my pizza before it burns up. It’s like my conscience only louder (and smarter).

Voice Candy is a great little utility that’s certainly not for everyone, but give it a go and see if it floats your boat.
